It's Fantasy Football Time Again:

This year, the Senior Section have organised this competition in order to raise funds for the Company. The Fantasy Football 2009-2010 competition is based on actual player performance in the Premier League. You can spend up to an imaginary £100m on a squad of 15 players.

For more information, see PDF File  the flyer (70kB).

Check how the leagues are going from the links page.

Battalion Five-a-side

We retained the Senior winner's trophy and brought home the runners-up in the Company Section. No trophy for the Junior Section though this year, who went down in the semi-final for their group. Check out the photos.

125 Year Sports

What a fantastic result at the Battalion sports day on Saturday 27th June. Medals in 27 events, leading to victory in the Junior, Company and Senior age groups, with the Anchor Boys runners-up to the 1st Tamworth in theirs. Trophies are in the trophy cabinet. Full results are on the Battalion website.

Picture Competition

Well done to Matthew for winning his age group (Junior, school years 5 and 6) and Chad for coming third in his (Junior, school years 3 and 4), in the Battalion picture competition. Their entries for 'a railway scene' are on the Battalion website.

Battalion Swimming Gala

A successful evening. Runners-up in the Anchor Boys (joint with the 5th WBBB), runners-up in the Junior Section & winners in the Company Section. Try as he might, Chris couldn't win the Seniors on his own!

National Senior 5-a-side Football - Round 2

We're going no further this year, despite a good effort. Good luck to the 16th Liverpool, winners of our group, at the final in Northern Ireland on the 25th April.

Battalion Junior Section Bible Quiz

Another excellent result in the Battalion Junior Section Bible Quiz, with our teams finishing 1st & 3rd. Read the full report & see the photos.

Competition Update

Long time, no update, much to report. Reporters all seem to have a touch of the CBBs. We're out of the National Table-Tennis & the National Badminton. We're through to the next round in the National 5-a-side (Seniors) though & have won the Battalion Table-Tennis (singles), finishing Runners-up in the doubles (check out the photo). Well done to everyone involved.

National Five-a-side (under-15s):

No further in this National either, this year. Valliant effort though, by the younger Company Section lads.

Battalion Tenpin Bowling:

Excellent result, with wins in both the Junior & Company/Senior Section competitions. Callum, Tom & James took the Junior trophy with 144. Chris, James & Greg retained the Company/Senior trophy with 385. Our other Company/Senior team of Liam, Ashley & Lewis came second with 336. Chris won the individual highest Company/Senior score of the first stage of the competition (two games) with 318. Callum was just pipped to the individual highest Junior score, as he got 142 - the highest was 143! Well done to everyone who entered.

National Masterteam:

We're going no further this year, with the team going out in the first round hosted at Charlemont. Good luck to the 1st Hinckley, 2nd Llantwit Major & 11th Northampton who went through from our group.

Battalion Cross Country:

Excellent result, with both the Company & Senior teams winning on Saturday. Well done to the Juniors who ran too. Have a look at the photos & the trophies.

Battalion Masterteam:

Commiserations to the quiz teams, who finished 3rd & 4th in the Battalion Masterteam on Monday evening. That means one less trophy in the cabinet. See the full quiz results on the Battalion website and read Bradley's full report.

Battalion Parade Report:

As part of their class, the Company Section have produced a report for the website about the recent Battalion Parade ... "Sunday the 19th October took sixty-two of us to Tamworth for the annual Mid-Staffs & Sandwell Battalion Parade ..." (full report)

National Ten Pin Bowling:

One of the trophies had a day out on Saturday, with a two hundred mile trip to Dunstable and back. Another great result, with one of our teams again coming runners up in the National ten pin bowling competition. A company first too, in the Officers' competition. (full report).

Awards Night:

Friday 26th September saw our 45th Annual Inspection, Display & Awards evening, which was hosted at Pennyhill Primary School. We hope those parents & friends who attended enjoyed the evening & congratulations to all those who gained awards & won trophies.

New Session:

All sections start their new session & start meeting formally in uniform again on Friday 5th September. Subscriptions as per the letter issued before the break are due on this evening. For the Company & Senior Sections, meeting times will change back to 19:45 to 22:00 as usual.

Back from Camp:

Well, we're back from camp, where we had a glorious week weather-wise and everyone had a great time (not heard otherwise). Still waiting for a full report to publish from anyone with loads of spare school hols time! Check out the group photo, a higher resolution version will be available to download soon.

Battalion Sports Day:

More competition news, with us winning the Company & Senior Sections, the Juniors finishing runners up and the Anchor Boys' doing well too. A very well done to all who took part (full report).

Seniors' Weekend:

separated at birth A good time walking, crabbing, & cycling was had by all (well; most - and maybe not the crabs either, I guess). Good to get the photo though, that proves these two were separated at birth. One a bit weird, always messing about & like something from the Seventies - & the other is Bingo from the Banana Splits. See more photos from the weekend.

Junior Section Challenge Quiz:

An excellent performance from the Junior Team, taking first place in this Battalion event hosted at Charlemont. Well done lads!

Robin Hood 5-a-side:

Saturday 26th April saw 18 of us travel to Nottingham to take part in the Robin Hood 5-a-side, a competition in which we won the under-14s last year. This year, we entered both the under-14s and under-18s section, but unfortunately this year neither of our teams got past the league stages (photos, full u14 report).

Battalion Swimming Gala:

Fantastic result from the Battalion Swimming Gala, with victory in all three sections retaining the trophies for another year (maybe we should take a photo of them, so we know what they look like). Congratulations to all who took part - special mention to all those who won their races, James, Aaron, Daniel, Matthew, Ben, Jordan, James, Tom, Ryan, Greg, Simon, Chris & James. Additions to Company swimming gala legend must be Greg thinking he'd finished his race - with another length to go! - & Simon, in the second leg of the senior relay, demonstrating less buoyancy than the Titanic (photos, full report).

Anchor Boy & Junior Section Picture Competition:

Excellent entries from Kai, Chad, Thomas & Jake can be seen on the Battalion website. Congratulations especially to Kai & Chad for coming runner-up & winner in their age groups.

National Five-a-side (under-15s):

We started the tournament well winning our first two matches, we then took the lead against the 48th London in our third match only to concede a dubious equaliser with their player scoring within the goalkeeper's area & after that 3 more goals killed us off quite quickly. Needing a victory against Southampton in match 4, poor finishing & an own goal by Aaron effectively ended our hopes of going to Ireland. Playing for pride in game 5 against Ipswich Dave & I opted to freshen up the team & moved Ashley to centre forward, scoring 2 goals & by getting "stuck in", he was then cruelly denied a hatrick by the referee's whistle (photo).

Ice Skating:

sk8rs
Rumours of a comeback for Torvill & Dean are rife following a sighting at Telford ice-rink.

National Five-a-side (over-15s):

The over 15s crashed out of the National 5-a-side at the Trafford Centre. An initial 1-0 loss to the 53rd Manchester was soon forgotten with a 4-1 victory over the 32nd Nottingham. Train & traffic-jam lag then set in, leading to a 4-2 beating by the 17th Delves Lane. Losing two players (& our only two supporters) to the Great Yarmouth Express could only make it worse, losing the last two 5-1 & a goal-fest 8-4 to 11th Warrington & 16th Liverpool respectively (photo).

Drill:

It wasn't to be in the Battalion Drill competition. A good effort, but third by one point, 182 to 183, to 1st Tamworth, with 1st Walsall Wood winning with 190. Losing by such a small margin often opens up a debate about who lost the mark, but maybe think of it this way - if each person accepts their performance wasn't absolutely perfect, each of them could therefore have equally given the little bit more that would have picked-up an extra point.

National Masterteam:

So near, yet so far. Hopes dashed for another year with the team coming in second out of six at the English 'semi-final' on Saturday 1st. It was sooo close though, with only one & a half points in it. Never mind, excellent work in getting as far as you did!

First Aid:

Second again in the Battalion First Aid competition 7th Feb - that's two years running. Well done to Simon & James. Another trophy for the engravers!

Bible Quiz:

The Company & Senior Section Battalion Bible Quiz came to Charlemont 31st January. Our team came second to the 1st Cannock.

Table Tennis:

A win in the doubles & runners-up in the singles at the Battalion Table Tennis competition. Well done lads!

Check (your) mate:

We got knocked out of the National Chess competition :( - but came back with stories of a look-a-like living in Malvern :)
